Steve's Transitions Journal: On Partnerships and Wishful Thinking

Steve Sawyer discusses how people should be wary about companies who want to be your "partner."

At MTI, we do strive for all of our customers to treat the MTI relationship as a "partnership" and I want to explain why, using Steve's points as the basis for the discussion.

The first thing is that the two entities must share, to some extent, some strategic goal or tactical objective...the success of one partner leads directly to the success of the other partner MTI has two objectives that can be strongly linked to our trucking customers: profitability and productivity. But moreso, we believe in two other goals: customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction. As a trucking company, we believe that you want trucking software that helps you provide better services to your customers and make your employees' lives better, in short, more productive. As many of our customers will attest, our trucking software is only part of this package. Our employees are also a key part of the team who want to deliver that to you.

partners' products or services should be complementary and not competitive. This part may seem fairly obvious, as MTI isn't about to start delivering shipments to your customers - but in our initiatives to provide you with useful tools to give to your customers, we want to work with you. the second thing that a partnership requires follows from the first - openness and trust. I hope that our advisory board shows one way that we are being directly open with our customers. But this blog is another way.

If you don't believe that everyone at MTI has your best interests at heart, then you need to let us know and tell us what we can do to earn that trust. Realize that everyone is busy and some answers can't be provided overnight - but we provide our customers with the reasons why some challenges are harder to meet and want your input as to how we can make it even better.

A great example of this is our new Implementation initiative. Over the next few weeks, we'll be coming up with a new implementation plan that we hope to share with our customers, designed to ensure that customers, both new and old, are able to take advantage of the great functionality found in the Horizon product line.

MTI "partners" with a number of vendors ; we also "link" to a variety of others. But our customers are our most important "partners" and our commitment to you is to be completely open through our entire process. And we want the same commitment from you. Because that is the basis for the great partnerships we have with our customers.

Are you current with your MTI Software?

At MTI, we try to keep down releases to a regular schedule however there are times when something is reported that needs to be updated immediately.

As a result, a patch will be posted online but not advertised to the entire user community. Instead, we'll notify the customers who have reported these issues to us.

If you don't do it regularly, it's always a good idea to run the Horizon Installation Manager to see what's been updated. The most current versions of core Horizon products are:

Horizon Core Services: 2.0.19
Horizon Circle of Service: 2.0.32
Horizon Compliance: 2.0.58
Horizon Dispatch: 2.0.95
Horizon Billing: 2.0.58
Horizon Settlements : 2.0.31
Horizon Trip Interface: 2.0.38
Horizon Vehicle Maintenance: 2.0.87
Horizon Tire Tracking: 2.0.11
Horizon Translator: 2.0.11

If you are running older versions than these, please be sure to update. It keeps everything running much smoother on your system.

What does your dispatch screen look like? During implementation, we try to ensure that information you want to see highlighted is done so. But it's easy to change later on. Here is one view for drivers that highlights drivers with unread messages, late shipments and more.

Rich Bundschuh, Sr. Wins Big with MTI At TCA!!

Las Vegas, NV - Truckload Carriers Association Annual Meeting 2005

Congratulations to Rich Bundschuh, Sr. of Bunch Transport, from Charleston SC. He was the winner of Melton Technologies' Win $$$$$$’s and Learn how to save more contest. This contest, open to attendees of the annual conference, asked participants to guess how many dollars filled the sample truck at the booth.

Rich guessed the closest - his guess of $499 was closest to the $500.

We'll be reporting more on our activities at the TCA soon.
